MA Sierra Club Endorses Two in Tolman Seat Race
Brownsberger and Hecht Both Hold Stellar Records
News Release: November 7, 2011
[Boston, MA] – The Massachusetts Sierra Club today endorsed two candidates, Will Brownsberger (D-Belmont) and John Hecht (D-Watertown) in the race to replace Steven Tolman (second Suffolk and Middlesex district.)
Both State Representatives have received the Sierra Club endorsement in previous races.
“At times it can be difficult to find a single candidate to endorse,” said Phil Sego, Political Chair of the MA Sierra Club. “In this race voters are fortunate to have two candidates with stellar records running for office.”
“We don’t often endorse more than one candidate for a single seat,” said Sego. “In this instance, both Brownsberger and Hecht have been true leaders on environmental issues in the State House, and both have been repeatedly endorsed for their excellent work. Frankly, we think either candidate would do an excellent job representing environmental issues for their constituents.”
Announcing their endorsement of true environmental leaders, the Sierra Club hopes both to promote these legislators visibility with a ‘stamp of approval’ as well as encourage other legislators, to step up their efforts and do even more to protect citizens’ health, safety and the Commonwealth’s natural resources.
The Sierra Club, noted for their high-profile national positions, is also deeply rooted in local, regional, and statewide issues. Their endorsement process includes in-depth research and careful analysis of a questionnaire designed specifically to address local environmental issues. The Club’s endorsement is then communicated to its members, which currently number greater than 20,000 statewide.
